Brad Burgess

Fellow and Chief CPU Architect

Brad joined MIPS in January 2024, with more than three decades of semiconductor and RISC-V industry experience. Previously he was a Fellow and CPU architect at SiFive, where he defined high-performance vector units and high-end out-of-order CPUs. Prior to that, he was Senior VP and Chief CPU Architect at Samsung, where he led the design of six generations of high-end CPUs for the Galaxy flagship phones. He was Senior Fellow at AMD where he led the Bobcat CPU architecture and oversaw subsequent CPUs that went into the PlayStation and XBOX. He was also Chief CPU Architect at Motorola, where he led several PowerPC designs including those that went into the original IMAC and Mars Rover. He holds Master and Bachelor degrees in Electrical Engineering from Texas A&M University, is a member of the IEEE, and has over two dozen patents.
